There are so many wonderful reasons for selling online especially eBay. I think the reason I enjoy selling postcards, cabinet cards and other ephemera is the interesting buyers I meet. I sold a postcard to a lady in Helena Montana where I have relatives. She happened to know my cousin quite well and wrote a nice note to me. Another lady wrote to tell me that she purchased a postcard from me because her Grandfather built the building that was featured on the front of the postcard. Some buyers like to tell me that "Wow I remember that motel pictured on postcard. I stayed there as a little kid. I just had to buy it. "
Other happy buyers are authors who need old pictures of certain cities, museums who like to add to their collections of local history. I also meet people who I have a connection with, that has nothing to do with the item they won on auction. I just had several sales to a ham radio operator in Florida who bought old photographs from me. I knew he was a ham because his ebay ID was his call sign. Now when we communicate I ask him how the big ham radio convention in Dayton was since I could not attend.
Today was really a good day to appreciate Ebay. I went to a church rummage sale. I got great deals, good quality quilt fabric and a first edition book which I will read then list. They have one of these books on amazon for 62 bucks. Now I may not get that much but.......

Ebay used to be a great place to buy and sell. But over the years they have lost their sense of being a family. They have become cold and detached. What started out as a friendly, fun place has now bowed down to the all mighty dollar. Its a sad day.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read your post that you feel this way because I am part of a HUGE sense of eBay Family and would love to embrace you and prove you wrong!!! We all love making our dollars almighty and thanks to eBay we can! Join us at: VirtualOnlineLearning.com as we join together helping online sellers succeed!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really care that much about eBay being a family (the conventions used to be nice) but hey it's a business and I'm here to sell and they always listen to their sellers even if they don't agree with everyone--who could! I love ebay and have been selling since july 4, 1998!
ReplyDeleteInteresting comments to my above posting. Well I think all the competition out there is making Ebay work harder. Us auction sellers (no store) have had 5 days of free listings over 99 cents. Thats a bonus! Haven't done much with it as we are going RVing. I am going to time my auctions to start just when I leave and close when I get home. Making money while traveling. Also I just signed up for the ebay Sales Report Plus starting with my April sales. Wow the information hit home, mostly good but I can definitely see areas for improvement.
