I just got a email from The Animal Rescue Site. They always post a spotlight on domesticated cats, but this time they want to talk to you about the plight of some much larger, less tame cats: Africa's lions.
Yes, the king of the jungle need your help!
There are an estimated 20,000 lions left in the wild areas of this massive continent, an alarming decline from the roughly 450,000 that existed in the 1940s. With the loss of their native habitat, poisoning through the use of dangerous pesticides in farming, and the still lucrative poaching market, the King of the Beasts could face extinction in their native land in a mere 10 years.
We can help today by signing a online petition to Help Save Lions And Other Rare Animals. This online action will send a message to U.S. senators, asking them to support the Great Cats and Canids Act. This vital legislation will provide financial support for groups working to protect rare great cat and wild canine populations outside of North America. Many of the countries native for these species lack the resources to conserve these animals within their borders...a global effort is needed.
