Every Saturday, I volunteer six hours of my time at a tiny, two-room library in Reddick, Fla. For me, it's just like being a kid in a candy shop so it astounds me to watch little kids and teenagers walk by hundreds of books on the shelves only to sit at computers and watch videos for hours. They have no interest, whatsoever, in exploring all the different worlds which quietly reside in those precious volumes of paper, ink and cardboard.
Books have always been special treasures in my "Garden of Life." I was an only child and books kept me company by taking me on amazing adventures with all kinds of fascinating people and animals. I read science fiction, fantasy, and stories about dogs, cats and horses. My absolute favorite book when I was growing up was "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell -- the life of a horse, through his eyes. I read my paperback copy of BB so much I practically had it memorized. And all these years later, I still have that very same ragged copy in my collection. It's way too special to ever throw away.
Now, as an adult, when I hold a book in my hands I realize I am holding someone's dream, sweat and tears. It's an incredibly difficult process to write a book, let alone get one published. Writers who have successfully done so may have received numerous rejection slips before their dream finally became a reality. No matter what obstacles they faced in the publishing arena, though, they didn't give up. They kept trying, kept reaching until they were finally able to share their world of "pure imagination" and/or research with the rest of us.

Our oldest son and his family were here to visit last week. We do not see them often as they live in Germany while he is stationed at the Air Force base there.
I have to laugh at my comic strip life and the timing of things. I lost my voice to allergy problems and talked in a squeaky in again off again whisper for most of their stay. Chase is 6 and Parker is 3. Parker now thinks his grandma Leah doesn't have a real voice. We whispered to each other a lot.
The boys enjoy our fish tank, especially the baby guppies. As a surprise, we took them to a local pet store to pick out fish. The idea being that they could name the fish and leave them at our house here in the states. A fun conversation starter for future phone calls.
We took them around to see the other animals first. Once that fun was winding down we headed to the fish tanks in the back of the store.
Imagine...we are walking...grandma says in a whisper "You get to pick out..." and that is all that was heard before they began jumping up and down and yelling with excitement. Chase says "Wow! We get to pick out animals!! I'm getting a parrot!!" Parker, wide eyed and thrilled, responds "I am getting a cat!!" I had to laugh. I couldn't be heard. Grandpa Scott to the rescue.
We left with 2 new cory catfish for the tank. A green one named Rocky and a spotted one named Tigger. Gotta love it!
Hello, I'm celebrating my eBay Purple Star today. This means I have sold over 500 items on eBay since I started selling in 2005. On my eBay Summary page I scroll down to see my feedback score. The next color star that I can shoot for is only 500 transactions away!
498 of my transactions have been drama free. I’d like to believe it’s because of the positive energy I’m putting out. But as many of you know, it’s a lot of hard work and good customer service. I may also be a bit lucky. After the first 100 stars I didn’t worry too much about reminding people to leave feedback. I’ve let my feedback grow organically. This means that I didn’t ask for feedback in the package and I didn’t remind people to leave feedback for me. People might say I was not being proactive in soliciting feedback. Could it be that I did not “ask” for drama?
So I will recognize the big 500 as my accomplishment today and celebrate. I somehow managed to turn this fun past time into a small business and people have noticed along the way! I plan to celebrate with my small staff that includes a husband and a teenage daughter. I want to include all the blog readers here at RunDramaRun in my Purple Star Party. Many of you can relate to the star feedback system and the rewards of hitting milestones as you sell on eBay, get Twitter followers, or reach new heights in blog traffic.
